MANCHESTER – Manchester School District has been fortunate to receive a generous $300,000 grant from the Crotched Mountain Foundation to create accessible and inclusive playground spaces for students of all abilities. During the first phase of the grant, Gossler Park purchased adaptive equipment and classroom resources for students with multiple disabilities, ensuring they have access to the tools and supports needed to thrive in their learning environment.

Last summer, the grant also funded the resurfacing of the school’s playground area, transforming it into a fully accessible space for students who use wheelchairs or have other mobility challenges. The new rubberized surface, along with adaptive play equipment, allows these students to independently explore, play, and engage alongside their peers, something that was not possible before.

“This project has truly opened doors for our students,” said Principal Upham. “To see our children laughing, playing, and sharing those joyful moments together on the playground is absolutely heartwarming. It’s more than just a playground, it’s inclusion in action.”

The Gossler Park project follows the successful completion of similar work at Bakersville Elementary School, both made possible through the partnership between the Manchester School District, Crotched Mountain Foundation, and CMF Kids.

“Crotched Mountain Foundation and CMF Kids believe the joy of play is for all children of all abilities,” said Melissa White, Executive Director of CMF Kids. “We are honored to partner with Manchester School District to make inclusive play a reality for the Gossler Park community.”

Superintendent Jennifer Chmiel expressed her appreciation for the collaboration and the meaningful impact it continues to have on students and families. “This work reflects what’s possible when schools and community partners come together,” Chmiel said. “Gossler Park’s new playground will provide a welcoming space where all children, regardless of ability, can play, learn, and grow together.”
